It's not that difficult to see that these two statements don't neccesarely contradict eachother. I would simply draw the conclusion that the far future (VFP 8 excluded) would be determined by the sales (of VFP 7). I did not read that it won't have a future not enough copies are sold.

Compare this with people: My future depends on how my business runs this year. Does this say that I will be terminated if sales this year are below expected ?
No of course not, it only means that the direction of my future can get a bit different.

I cannot draw any conclusion to this statement if the sales expectations are not met.
