Over the 38 years I've been a Christian it has been an amazement to me how easily congregations split. The "Church of Christ" alone, during its 100 years of separate existance, has managed to split itself into over 250 groups, many of whom won't share the time of day with their 'brothers in error'. You can read about them and their reasons in a book titled "Where the Saints Meet".

Jesus said "you can tell my bretheren by the love they have, one for another" A remarkable verse, and one which leaves a lot of 'Christian' churches, or all persuasions, lacking.

>Watching television evangelists discuss the same biblical passage can be interesting. To a point that is. I can recall a person wearing a “Sign Post” standing at Fifth Street and Market, at the stairs of the Bank of America, near the Powell Street Cable Car Turntable, in San Francisco, since the late 1940’s. The sign reads to the effect the end of the world is here and quotes the Biblical passage. A person wearing the same sign (very worn by now) is still at that location.

It is also interesting to follow the 'interpretive trail' individual TV evangelists leave. One guy and his wife pretend to have a 'news' show, the primary feature of which is the guy demonstrating his prodigious memory and rapid recital of great volumes of scriptures. You probably know who I mean. What has amazed me over the years is how the same few 'prophetic' scriptures can be applied so easily to so many different events, in some many different places. None of them actually forsaw the breakup of the USSR and the reimmergence of Russia as a state, yet they all interepret various scriptures 'prophecying' that event after the fact. The main thrust of their message is "send me more money so I can ask more people to send me more money".
