Here's an idea about both the filtering and speeding up the grid. You said that you had two databases, and pulling fields from both. Try using SQL to pull the fields you want into a cursor and then populate the grid with the cursor. The cursor will be on the workstation (temp database), so the speed should improve. Less network traffic too!
