I've noticed, that under VFP7, instantiation can be real fast if early binding is used with CREATEOBJECTEX. The only performance problem I encountered then had to do with setting various printer properties. this can be real slow (2 to 2.5 seconds to set the printer to be used with the report)

Another difference between VFP and CR is that CR tends to read all records in the report at forehand (because of the multipass mechanism) while the VFP reportwriter does not.
