Hi Farhad,
Nancy gave you excellent advice and I agree with her, in general, about the Alan Cooper book, although, reading that book is not a bad start for ideas.
My rule of thumb for UI design over the past few years is "How does Office do it?". Why? Because nearly all users have some familiarity with Office and familiarity creates a higher comfort level for the users from the beginning. Alternately, "How does Outlook do it?" also works, particularly in the way it presents collections of items and properties for each item (contact, mail items, et al).
