Your suggestion cleared the main problem. The form does not immediately append a blank and then hits newid() when the form is activated. All is now OK untill I save, then newid() is run again, I don't think a blank is appended. But the variable that hold the next unique id in the ID table is incremented. I put a wait window nowait in newid() to flag an access. I have stepped thorugh the code and so far have not seen why newid() is run again after saving. I will try stepping through the code again to look for the problem. But maybe you have another suggestion that would help me?
