Sorry, I have no idea. I thought you might have been using VFP6, which in earlier versions had some write cache issues with IDE hard drives.

You might check the Device Manager for the PC Card drive to see if there's any write caching going on and if it can be disabled.

In general, popping out hardware without notifying the OS is fraught with peril, so ultimately there may be no way around it other than to educate your (ab)users. But, I can see how you'd want to minimize the chances of error.
