To add on Kevin comments, have a look at the preference form and study the way the path to the current DATABASE is stored in the registry. The current database is set at runtime by the DataEnvironment of every business object (see the GetDefaultDatabase() method of the cDataEnvironement class in dDataEnv.PRG.
