Albert,

The distro is RH 6.2, and the KDE distro is quite easy to deal with, as I had it running very easily on a desktop last year for a couple of weeks. But this time around I have installed on a Toshiba Satellite 3000/S353 laptop, and have yet to find the video card/monitor combination that Xconfigurator will be happy with.

1. Tried Generic VGA driver with Generic LCD 1024x768 display, prober said there was a problem
2. Tried nVideo GeForce 256 generic (Card is actually an nVideo GeForce 2 GO), again with generic LCD 1024x768, prober didn't like it again
3. Tried another nVideo driver and really got slammed. When Linux booted up, about 3 seconds after I got the login, the display would blank and I couldn't get in nohow noway. Had to reinstall.

After experience # 3, I got spooked and decided to concentrate on boning up on text mode activities for awhile, so that if #3 happens again I can rescue the situation w/o a reinstall.

Thanks specifically for:
A) the usr/share/doc and /doc/faq, I will be digging through those while commuting, and..
B) The keywords Linux Howto [package] search idea, will be trying these out.
