First, Passport is free. You are not charged to use it, nor do you ever have to go there and pick up email. You don't enter a credit card number. That eliminates arguements one, two, and three.

Java is no big deal. MS has decided to avoid any future legal problems with Sun by not shipping java support. This is a good business decision.

Most people download Apple Quicktime anyway, so what's the problem?

I fail to see his point here. All he says is he doesn't like it. Big deal. I don't like lots of things.

For the record, I installed XP on Wednesday night. I already love it. Clear type improves the readability of screen fonts so much, that it alone is worth the upgrade.

IMO, your worrying about things that are no big deal. If your hardware will support it, go for the upgrade.
