Many Thanks for this, at least I now know I'm not going insane!!! Unfortunately I couldn't create a fixed length data set as the source was in excel. (I even tried DTSing directly from the excel spreadsheet and it still truncated the data at 453 characters). So I had to manually go through and edit the data set to fall under the 453 limit.

Having done this it worked beautifully.
