My group is now in the process of re-designing the structure of our hospital system database particularly related to Laboratory Results and/or Interpretation, Patient Care Automated Charting including Doctor's Order and Prescriptions. Is it advisible or smart enough that each Form Result i.e. Hematology, Immunology, Urinalysis, Stool Exam, etc. have separate tables and form scx? Currently, our hospital system have at least 200 tables which covers services (ADT, HMOs, Requisitions, and Charging), accounting, and inventory without clinical side. As part of the system expansion, we need to cover Clinical Side of the hospital system for us to compete with our 2 competitors: 1. PowerBuilder/Sybase, 2. VB/SQL Server 2000. Since our system will be VFP/SQL Server 2000, we need to smartly design our structure so we need good inputs from you guys specifically from those who have experienced in Medical and/or Hospital environment because this project will be nationwide in nature.
