These do NOT work from the Command Window, but when I pasted them into a .prg and ran it I got no compile error and I got "abcdef" as result of the first and "abc" for the second.

To me the second represents an example of the long-standing bug with VFp editor's colour coding.

These should also work with VFP6 the same way.
