Does anyone know what really happens when these commans are excuted within a transation (assume Optmistic table buffering) as regards tables / table headers being locked?

Append black Vs SQL Insert
Replace Vs SQl Update
Updating a memo field

The help is not very helpful. If someone knows of an article on this subject please let me know.
