It is depended on what kind of object you use. There are 3 of them - Excel chart, MS Chart control provided with VFP 6 and MS Chart control from MS Office.
Yes, the best way is to install MS Office. For other cases/solutions - I do not know much. There were a couple of other thread here that discuss this subject. Try to search for them.
