I don't know for sure but I think it has something to do with size of the program stack used to pass parameters. If you multply the size of variable 'descriptor' wich is 36 bytes (I think) by number of parameters + 1 (return value) you will get 36 * 28 = 1008. It's vary close to 1kb = 1024 bytes. But again it's just my speculations.
