Well, there ya go - I like your single table idea even better (although I haven't thought it through much). Too bad there doesn't seem to be any publicly available code for this, as it's a common request.

The BIGGEST issue with any code like this would be to ensure that ALL locking and unlocking is done through these methods or procedures. Can't have anything that "goes around" that code or problems could occur.
