This sounds like the right way to do it, but I need fairly detailed instructions as to how to store in the registry. Just to make sure we are talking about the same problem ... I'm designing forms and want to save colors that I have customized between sessions.

I don't know how to save them in either an .ini file or the registry. Once saved, how do I recall them?
