Barbara, thanks, I have not tried that; however, I just finsihed creating a new
class called nj_phone_number and used that at the database level.

It worked!

I have done a lot of work with PowerBuilder and tons of work with FoxPro /DOS
and FoxPro/Win so I am now figuring out how VFP does the stuff I did in
PowerBuilder.
