Is there a way to tell which control in a container has focus?

What I am trying to determine is which control in a container with 3 rows of textboxes where each row has 3 columns has the focus when a button also in the containter is pressed. What I've come up with thus far is when the control gets focus transfer its row position (ascertained from the control's name) to a property of the container. Is there a better way?
