I'm glad you have a solution to your problem.
I'm curious. How do you handle the situation where the user needs to more than one record, or records in more than one file? Also, you might want to consider using the primary key of the file being locked, rather than the record number.

>Thanks for you help on this, I was able to add these 2 fields to my security table for my application. I already have the user names in this table, so adding these fields to this table seem right. I added the table name and record number fields to my table. Where I do rlock I told the user what record number was locked this seem the simplest place to place this rountine since I already do all my record lock checking in this function. I replace the message from showing record number to displaying user message.
