Did you try the left frame under notebooks? Choose one. When you do so you can click on any of the configerations to see what you get for the price. Then you can click on custom Configurations to select what may be of interest.

What I consider a minimal laptop for development work is the Latitude C600, 14.1" display, WinXP Pro, 20 Gig drive, 256 MB RAM, CDROM, Network adapter. It came out to $2115. If you're just doing word processing, web surfing, etc, you can get away with less.
