I’m preparing myself for a lot of changes over the next 2 to five years as Microsoft builds it new .Net operating system. I’m still using NT 4.0 for my network. I waited a long time for NT 5.0/2000. Now Microsoft has come out with windows XP and it doesn’t have windows 2000 fully deployed. At least we now have a unified kernel as of NT 2000. From what I’ve read in the tech magazine, we can expect another version of window, one in which the registry disappears. If this really happens, applications could create their own environments much like in UNIX or DOS. I think this would work better for window in an open Internet environment. Also, isn’t window required to share .NET with other non microsoft application and operating system so they can nook into it. I'm not sure of the term of its recent settlement with the Justice Department. Anyway, it seen like it would be in Microsoft's best interest to share .NET. In that way it could sell more operating systems. Hummm, back to the future.

The opinions expressed here are strictly mine.
