Hi Leland,

>...Microsoft has only recently adopted a strategy for the Internet.

"a strategy for the internet". I'd really like someone for once explain what this means. Just because we all use the internet there isn't a need for a specific "strategy" for it, whatever that means. Hey, we all use the toilet too. Actually, its use is spread even wider than the internet so I guess we should expect VisualStudio.flush any time now... ;-)

The internet is a fantastic means of communication. It allows us to get and send important information in a timely manner, but that's all it really is. The internet still doesn't run most businesses and I doubt it ever will. The most I can see of internet ingrainment in regular businesses is through tele-commuting, which is the current fade (likely to last another 3-4 years, until studies start to surface stating that human contact is indeed important to people - duh!).

We are being sold "strategies" that are 40 years old as the latest thing. Has anyone stopped to think how similar internet-enabled apps (thin clients) are to the mainframes and dumb-terminals of the 60's? Gee... we have computers powerful enough to send a man to Jupiter and back and we're using them as what? yeah, dumb terminals.

>Although Microsoft has never let me down, I feel a little insecure because I’ve made a major investment in time, energy and money in the Visual FoxPro language and I’m total dependent of Microsoft and Bill Gates Vision of the Future, and Visual FoxPro’s role in that.

Next time you're feeling insecure put a hand in front of your face and use your fingers to count how many of your clients are using or considering migrating to a pure non-MS platform.

Last I heard (here on the UT, actually), there is work underway on a windows clone for linux.
