Charlie,
I'm not sure I follow. On my home box, where I am able to consume web services, all I do is click on tools - intellisense manager and then the 'types' tab and click on Web services to register a web service with intellisense.
Then, with a few lines of code, I can send a parameter to a web service and receive a response.
I'm not publishing anything on my home box, but I can consume all kinds of web services...because I don't have any *&$@#$ firewall issues to deal with.
