Steve;

I think you mistook Mark for me, as we are identical twins in disguise. I have often been accused of speaking in the passive voice. At 6’ 7”, if I do not get my way with words, I have other measures sure to convince just about anyone! Anyway, Thomas also means Twin.

The president of the company that had the problem threatened to sue our company and cancel the contract (big bucks involved here) because of the “lost data”. Our owner was away and I took it upon my self to resolve the problem. I sent a technician to the customer site (80 miles away!), got the table on a Zip Drive, and had it returned to me post haste. In the mean time I found out who did what to the server – a member of the IT staff at the clients site. He told me he saw this window pop up and it said “Wait while your records are being packed”. He got tired of waiting and re booted the NT server (standard fix for NT you know!). Considering their server ran 24/7 and all was well except for the message, I think this guy “over reacted”!

After the smoke was cleared I fixed the file, the tech returned it to the client and installed it. All was well. I then instructed the client how to treat the server and that was that. We reset the function to run at 3 AM (someone set it for 9 AM) and all was well. I even got a thank you and an apology from the same guy who threatened to sue us.

There is nothing like a happy customer – even though our contract spelled out “You are responsible for your data…”! Do not try to explain that to the client when a $100,000 contract is at stake and they are upset!

Tom
