Steve Gibson (not the one who participates here in the UT, but the owner of grc.com) had developed a similar product ("Optout", freeware, too), but when lavasoft made their product, he decided it made more sense to recommend their product, instead of continuing to develop his own.
Optout used about 50 KB, if I remember correctly, and detected spyware from a single source: Radiate/Aureate, which turns out to be used in many popular download assistants (especially Go!Zilla, NetAnts, and GetRight).
Another interesting freeware from grc.com (also around 50 KB!) makes a detailed analysis of ZIP disks and drives.
I find the size especially impressive (Assembler code); my own programs, by contrast, require ca. 4 MB of DLLs (VFP, of course).
