Do you have to send all the changes in one message or can each column be a seperate message? You might be better off using the IF UPDATE(column_name) syntax.

Although 52 columns seems like a lot, it's actually easy to write a little script that would build the trigger for you. Take a look at INFORMATION_SCHEMA.columns.
