>Aspergillus Niger (also known as bread mold) is also reponsible for the rotting siding on many new homes - also the subject of a class action law suite. It seems that the siding manufacturer did not 'cure' the boards properly, or use adequate amounts of fungicide during manufacture. If you see dark brown or black stains or mottling on your walls, cellings, around foundations, or anywher else where high humidity and/or water leaks prevents adequate drying then folks who remain in those environments are at risk from both lung AND BRAIN infections, leading to senility. This mold is also the cause of King Tut's Revenge -- the cause of death of several people who first broke the seal on King Tutenkamin's burial chambers. The walls of that chamber were covered with Aspergillus Niger spores.
Yes, it's nasty stuff! I've heard a few commentators link the 25 year trend towards air-tight home building as a prime factor in the spread and impact of the mold.
