A few years ago, 56K modem weren't too bad because websites didn't have a lot of graphical and/or dynamic content, and cookies weren't encountered very often.

Now, with some sites throwing 4 and 5 cookies on the first click, lots of graphics and then having remote ad servers dropping dynamic banners on to the page, 56K surfing is similar to Chinese Water Torture. I have a tier I ADSL connection and some sites make it seem like molassas. And, if I am not mistaken, some sites are throwing cookies and then checking to see if they can read it back. If they can't the site won't display...

Although UT looks pretty and is fast from a T1 here at work, flash and other dynamic additions can slow down access a lot from a 56K modem. That's the main reason why I wished that Michael hadn't gussied up UT so much.

If my ADSL service drops I will probably limit my www activity to email and selected resource sites.
