Hey David! Good to see you here!

The first piece of advice is to set aside a whole day to just read the manual cover to cover and simply think about the concepts. Make notes and write down questions that come up.

Make sure you are able to fully separate layers in your application. Whatever you want to do should be doable from the command line by instantiating one or more business objects, setting property values, and calling methods. Once you can do this, it means you are ready to add the presentation layer (forms) to your application.

You will need a good tool to create and maintain views. Either Erick Moore's eView or ViewEdit should be adequate.

Also, buy Stonefield's SDT. You will need it. Well, you won't "need" it, but you will be miserable without it. Especially when you modify table structures as this will break your views if you're not careful.

If you need to make changes to ANY of the framework's classes make a note of it or you will go nuts when the next version is released.

Don't put your projects under the mmortals directory. Create a projects directory and put them in sub-directories thereunder. You will more than likely at some point have 2 versions of the framework in your computer and this strategy will make things easier.

Whenever you have a question you should probably run a search on the messages I have posted. I have a feeling that I've posted the stupidest questions around here ever, so that's likely to save you time. Seriously though, the only stupid questions are the ones you don't ask, so when in doubt, ASK.

Kevin's classes... you'll benefit more if you're familiarized with the framework before taking them.

Good luck!!!

>I purchased MM a few weeks ago. I've read about 1/3 of the user's manual (which itself is worth the price of the framework). I'm very psyched to get going with it, but as with learning anything of this magnitude from scratch, I'm not sure when to stop reading and start doing, so I'd appreciate anybody's advice/experiences with this process.

>What did you do to learn the framework? What were the biggest mistakes you made? What pitfalls can you help me avoid? Did you just switch over 100%, or did you slowly make the switch? What big-picture concepts were you missing when you started, that you understand now?

>I'd really like to take Kevin's class, but it's not in the cards for the next few months at least.

>Thanks in advance for your thoughts!
