There are a lot of SMTP servers out there that don't use any kind of authentication. You wouldn't want to send to much volume through one server, but you might have an alternative server for people that don't have access to their own SMTP.
Can you accomplish what you want with mailto:
userid@email.com? Wouldn't this open a new message in AOL as well? I'm not sure how to put content into the message, but I think it is possible.
