>>Wow! The stories I've heard about TCI! Actually, here in rural NC there have been so many problems with DSL that most have gone with cablemodems until the lines are upgraded everywhere. I have DSL available at my house, but I'm too far away from the switch for it to be reliable. I elected to go with cablemodem and I've not been dissapointed!

Here in Lincoln, NE, cable Internet is through Cox Cable. They require you to subscribe to their premium service (~$40/month) before you are allowed to purchase cable internet for a paltry $49/month. Total: $90/month.

I am using ADSL through my local phone company, Alltel. They require a $20/month Internet account, then they'll charge about $29/month plus taxes, which brings it to about $60/month all together. This is for tier I, which is 384Kb/sec. One has to be within 16,000 feet of a phone substation to have sufficient signal strength. If they hook anyone else on your particular trunk segment you and they will split that 384Kb/sec. That's not as bad as it sounds be cause it wouldn't be often that you and your neighbors would be sucking bandwidth at the same time, unless you and they are downloading 500 MB of Oracle 8i for Linux. :) I have three computers connected through a firewall to a Cisco 675 acting as a DHCP server. When all three boxes are accessing the Internet at the same time I seldom experience a slowdown.
