Rolf,
VS SP3 had MDAC 2.1. I suppose SP5 had 2.5 or 2.6 (or I got them with w2k SPs). I just checked www.microsoft.com/data and found versions 2.5,2.6 and 2.7 there. Documentation also points to that URL.
Also might not apply to you but read Q235357 on MSDN online.
