I've been debating if a standard my group should set for the development of a corporate application should be to instantiate all non UI related objects via the Abstract Factory. Our primary reasons are for using them are 1) relocation of class between local and middle tier, 2) relocation of class to different class library.

What we couldn't come up with is, is any downside for using them ( other then very minor performance penalty ). Are there any we should be looking out for?

Business and event objects it seems to make perfect sense. Though for things like cSet or cSelect or objects that we create for parameter passing, it may be overkill. But then again, what's the downside?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Anthony
