I am still trying to get to the bottom of the above requirement as i am attempting to create some training material to explain the behaviour.

I looked at the latest VFP7 GETNEXMODIFIED parameter lvfire which is documented in the help to 'suppress only field and record rules and uniqueness of index ID violations' but this still returns 0 if you have not moved off the field and if you do move off the field then the rule fires first so what is he point?

I seems there is just no way to intercede between a control and a field rule bound directly to a Table
