>Weird? That a user doesn't understand the color schemes (etc.) options of Windows is weird? Hell, many of the "users" I come across, and even those proficient enough in MSWord, don't understand directories. If something causes a shift from "My Documents" they 'lose' their document because they haven't the foggiest about "Folders".

Don't even start me on "My Documents". I think it's an abomination.

As for "weird," I'm assuming in this case that someone has shown the user how to change their Windows colors before adding duplicate functionality to the application. I know that's the first thing I'd do if I were asked.

FWIW, I also think learning to manage colors and pointers and so forth is a good way for users to get more comfortable with their machines. It's my understanding that the reason there are some games built into Windows is to help users learn to work in the Windows environment. In particular, I remember hearing that the original Windows solitaire was created to let people practice using the mouse. Messing with colors and the like falls into the same category of safe experimentation that gives the user a sense of mastery.
