I'm trying to select the top 50 records in a recordset based on dollar amount (highest to lowest). I have used a SELECT TOP 50 and told it descending sort order on the dollar amount field but I get the following types of results:

$95.72
$93.00
$9.50
$85.00
$83.00
$8.23
$75.20

I realize this is happening because it is doing the sort based on a text comparsion sort order but how do I get it to give me the highest values based on the dollar amount? Thanks.
