I don't know Delphi well (I still plan to learn it, eventually), but I was favorably impressed by the fact that many things can be done with virtually no coding, that do require coding (sometimes, lots of it!) in VFP.

OTOH, these details are usually taken care of in major frameworks. I strongly recommend you seriously take a look at some frameworks. (In Delphi, almost everything you need is already included in the product, AFAIK.)

If you don't use a framework, you have to code this yourself. This can't be done simply by setting properties - you have to change the value of the variable every time you move the parent record.

Another thing you have to code yourself is to insert the "parent" field in the child table, when adding records.
