>You do raise some great points. To be honest, I'm not very interested in porting the DBF's and DBC's of VFP into Linux. I'm much more interested in seeing VFP code, GUI interface, and development environment imported into Linux. If I was to do an app in Linux I'd probably use MySQL anyhow.
Borland (Inprise) had a product VFP 5,6,7, which was proported to run GUIs on Sun and Unix. The dBase IV product object code ran on both Unix and DOS. Most of your market is Windows. Some, like government research agencies and (most recently) the UK government are considering a move to Linux (licensing and support issues). The researchers like the open source and news group support. UK doesn't like their 200% increase in MS licensing (saw it on the UT Home news!).
Most of the industrial Unix/Linux users work dumb terminals (like Wyse). Those guys would need a GUI (Mosaic/Apple) chip before we could go full GUI to to the desktop. Sometimes you just don't need GUI, I guess!
