I thought I would add this point to all the other replies: The problem with memo fields in VFP is that when you replce the contents of a memo field the new data is appended to the FPT file and the record pointer updated to the new data location but the original memo field data is still in there!

You cannot see the old memo field data but it still takes up diskspace until you PACK the file. This creates FPT file bloat and is why you need to PACK regularly.
