>The one good dark one I found here is Shiner Bock. These guys were Czech Germans, who landed in Texas few generations ago and realized there's no decent beer around, so they brought a family of brewers from home and started a brewery. They claim, and IMO live up to their claim, that they still feel the nostalgy and the beer is the same as it was back home.

>The only reason why Czech beers are not generally known as best in the world is that they are neither licensed nor exported. The Czech drink it all by themselves. You may try Pilsner-Urquell, which is as close as it can get, that's the only exported one I found. After a few bottles you get to pronounce the Czech name of the city (Plze?). BTW, Budweis is just the German name for ?eske Bu?ejovice - if you ever read about "The good soldier ?vejk" by Jaroslav Ha?ek, he was allegedly born there. And trust me, I've drank the beer produced in that place - Budweiser is nowhere near.

You might try finding a bar/restaurant with its own micro-brewery. Some of them make some pretty good dark. For myself, since there's nothing like that around me (Atlanta has some, but that's 50+ miles away), I generally stick with...yep, you guessed it Bud. The imports are just too expensive (give the amount of beer I drink< g >).
