You could always "recycle" the records - this is what we do with VFP mtdll web apps since it was so hard to do a pack in a web app. For records that you intend to delete just blank out the key field and any additional fields. Then when you add a new record just seek the first empty key and add to it. It works great for our web apps and keeps the file size way down...
