Dale,

I found myself awhile back spending way too much time watching. I moved recently and did not get the cable or DirectTV hooked up. I'm watching 7 channels and after a slight adjustment regarding the golf channel and CNN I've become very content with it. I watch less TV and find that I'm missing absolutely nothing. Two or three shows I look forward to watching each week and an occasional evening of channel-surfing. Which is pretty simplistic with only 7 stations to check...

>In general TV in it's past/present states, sucks big time! Parents since the 1960's have used it to "keep the kids busy/entertained". Of course the networks know this and keep pumping out the junk that keeps the children and adults coming back for more.

>>I was interested to see Mike's analogy with TV, if TV is so wonderful with the profusion of all of the channels, why isn't he sitting at home watching TV all day. Maybe because there is little on any of those channels that will improve the quality of his life, he has got better things to do with his life.

>>Unfortunately, as others have pointed out elsewhere, the technology will only advance when someone discovers they can get rich out of it & can convince the consumers to pay for it. The companies providing this technology will aim to maximise profits & minimise costs, which generally means that most of the benefits of the technology are wasted - eg. TV.
