ISEXCLUSIVE() only returns the status of a table already open. It won't tell you whether an attempt to open a table in EXCLUSIVE mode will fail or not. I believe try and error is the only way.

Way back I remember we turned off the default on error routine and create another error routine that would return I believe false but this was way back in pre Visual day.
