>If you don't feel comfortable with WSH, check out Winbatch (search Google for the vendor's site). Winbatch allows you to write scripts that can be compiled to small EXE's (require a 'small' runtime as well).
I'm fine with that approach, and Winbatch is a good product, except that I invariably avoid Microsoft tools when possible (then what am I doing here? Because I make money in VFP and VB, and I have a loyalty to VFP). For this work, I generally use Tcl/Tk, a cross-platform scripting language. It can best be described as VFP macros (&) on steroids - everything in the language is a macro substitution. If you need object-oriented capabilities or encryption of the script, I'd recommend Python, another cross-platform solution, which also has Windows-specific libraries available. Both of these product are open source and free.
