We use Verisign Payflow Link which is an easy, inexpensive way to do this(no need for SSL certificate, no storage of cc#'s on your site). If you need total control you'd use Payflow Pro which will actually run on your web server. This is sort of like Cybercash CashRegister which Verisign swallowed...
