>>I have a modem configured for dial-out and once in a while it "hangs", reporting that the line is in use by another application. The only way to make NT dial out again is to reset it, which in turn resets the modem. It is a Sportser voice 33,6 external. Does anyone know why this may be happening? I am guessing it may be some type of incompatiblity of the modem, or driver, or the serial link.

I have a similiar problem. I have a USR External 33.6 also, and i use phone dialer, to dial out. If the line is busy, it pops up a window, in which only one button is visible, but not text, like it's looping a if statement & can't display it.
Lots of times, like 90% of time, when i click Dial button, it will not show the window in which u have two buttons avaible, the Talk and the Hang up. Only shows the window in which u have hang up.
I noticed this happens, only after i have dial up networking loaded. When i reboot & try it works ok. Shows the correct window, with the two buttons.
Sometimes it also hangs, the Dialer that is, so i have to switch the modem off & close the dialer, otherwise it says the com is already used, what is BS.
Buggy NT when it comes to com ports?
I haven't rebooted for over 20 days now, so this bug can be very annoying sometimes.
