Well, I have good news and I have bad news.
The good news first:
I got DbVisualizer to connect to directories containing free VFP DBF tables.
Here is the form of the setup string:
jdbc:DBF:////pathtodirectorycontainingdbftables.
for me it was
jdbc:DBF:////home/jerry/dbf/dbffiles
Now the bad news.
It doesn't 'see' the DBF tables in that dir or its subdirs. :(
When you do something like 'select * from test1" it responds with "test1.DBF doesn't exist in ...." and shows the path.
Here is a copy of the letter Zhao sent me:
Dear Jerry Kreps,
Please use "jdbc:dbf:////home/jerry/dbf/dbffiles".
DBF URL format:
Direct Access:
jdbc:DBF:[//]/[DatabasePath]
For example: "jdbc:DBF:/." "jdbc:DBF:/D:/ZYH"
For unix or linux:
jdbc:DBF:///[DatabasePath]
For example: "jdbc:DBF:////usr/data"
Access by DBF Server: Skip it if you don't use RMI or JINI.
jdbc:DBF:[//][host][:port]/[DatabasePath]
Default host:localhost port:2129 DatabasePath:
For example: "jdbc:DBF://domain.com:1099/D:/ZYH" if one DBFServer
is run on the 1099 port of domain.com
Any problem? Please let me know.
With best regards,
Zhao Yonghong
Zhao responded very quickly! I told him about my problem with DbVisualizer not being able to 'see' the DBF tables, but DbVisualizer is not his project and I don't expect him to be very helpful.
