If you are running SuSE: use /usr/X11R6/bin/fetchmsttfonts -- it grabs the fonts directly from an ftp server at microsoft.com and installs them. The use of it is not documented. It appears, after it first starts running, to drop back to a terminal as if it were done. Don't let this fool you


First, visit http://sdb.suse.de/en/sdb/html/chofman_ttf_72.html , follow
the instructions and look for the package they tell you to dl and
install. It is:
ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/update/7.2/x1/xf86tools.rpm
This enables you to run 'fetchmsttfonts' in a console window as root
while being online.
The only trick is, that when running msttfonts once they will open a
file with vi, the famous editor. To go on, you need to hit 'Q' for
quitting vi. And of course, when they ask you 'yes' or 'no', 'no' will
cancel the action, so better use 'yes' :-))
Then, restart your X-Server (Ctrl-Alt-Backspace) and log in once more
and your AA (Anti-Aliasing) fonts should be there.

The process worked flawlessly for me.
